Curriculum

At Rainbow Cottage we have embraced the nationally approved Early Years Learning Framework . This is reflected in all aspects of our learning environments.

The aim of the Early Years Learning Framework is to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transition to school. It was developed to assist services to provide young children with opportunities to maximise their potential and develop a foundation for future success in learning.

Mission

To deliver exceptional Early Education and Care through research-based curriculum with experienced teachers who have sound knowledge and skills to understand and meet each child’s unique needs.

To ensure the ongoing viability of Rainbow Cottage as a non-profit community-based service by applying sound financial management policy and procedures.

Philosophy

At Rainbow Cottage Early Learning Centre, we believe that children, families, educators and the community are the foundations of our learning environments. We nurture each individual child to become themselves, confident, independent learners by forming secure relationships with all children and their families. We recognise that we are all members of the community, and we strive to show that children are active and valued members of Rainbow Cottage. Rainbow Cottage strives to value the importance of educator’s wellbeing as educators do their best in the workplace atmosphere as it is a pleasant environment to be a part of.

At Rainbow Cottage, we view children as unique and capable individuals, each bringing their own set of interests, talents, skills, and ideas to our centre. As educators, we deeply value, respect, work in partnerships with families to support safe and secure connections, and appreciate this individuality, acknowledging children as active participants in their learning journey. We encourage their development through exploration, discovery, and questioning, empowering them to construct their own knowledge and express their ideas. Each child’s needs are met through their own culture, routines, safe environments, respectful educators, religious and personal beliefs. Educators build strong connections with each individual child and family and build bonds each day through many hands-on experiences which are spontaneous or planned learning experiences based of the children’s interests.

Guided by the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) – Belonging, Being, and Becoming, we strive to create a meaningful, integrated, and emergent curriculum spanning all developmental areas. Our curriculums offer planned and spontaneous experiences, designed to support children’s growth in all developmental areas. We provide children with a regular routine where they are given adequate time for meals and rest and are provided with experiences that give each child the opportunity to explore a variety of different learning opportunities. Our curriculum is led by the children’s interests, goals with opportunities for children to interact with nature and the world around them. Children’s interest and family input play a major role in our curriculum development.

Rainbow Cottage holds strong family and community values which is upheld by a supportive volunteer committee of parents that assist in the smooth running of the centre. The committee meet regularly and commit individual effort and energy towards the management of Rainbow Cottage. The committee gather knowledge about Rainbow Cottage through their own individual observations and experiences as a parent within the centre.

At Rainbow Cottage we ensure children and families feel included and welcome by acknowledging and building relationships with all families and children whilst celebrating cultural and religious events and acknowledging and respecting religious beliefs. We accommodate needs of culturally diverse children and families and have staff available to assist with translation of the Punjabi culture. We plan and provide thoughtful experiences and activities that celebrate all the cultures and groups within our local community.

At Rainbow Cottage we are committed to engaging in ongoing reflection and self-review about our practices and procedures. We embrace a culture of innovation to drive continuous improvement in all areas of service delivery. This ensures we are endeavouring to provide the best education and care service we can, to support all families and children to reach their full potential, and for all employees to participate in ongoing professional development ensuring we are always up to date with current practices and standards.
